Grayson Fair is an artist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he continues to grow a practice shaped by movement, material, and place. He studied at the University of North Texas focusing on sculpture, drawing, fibers, and ultimately grounding himself in ceramics.
After graduating, he followed a path of residencies that carried him across the country. First he moved to Taos, NM for a yearlong immersion in the high desert, then to northern Arizona’s Reitz Ranch, and later to AMOCA in Pomona, California. From there, he moved north to Montana, spending two years as the Woodfire Resident at the Clay Studio of Missoula. His journey then took him to Omaha, where he worked as a studio assistant to Jun Kaneko.
Though his introduction to ceramics began with functional pottery, Grayson’s practice has shifted toward nonobjective, action-based sculpture. Fair’s work is driven by gesture, immediacy, and the physical dialogue between artist and material.
